Schneider Electric Releases Compact Altivar Process ATV6100 MV Drive for Improved Energy Efficiency, Process Optimization

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has announced the expansion of its Altivar Medium Voltage Drives—a line of services-oriented drives designed to meet operational and maintenance challenges in a cleaner energy world. The new Altivar Process ATV6100 extends the portfolio with a more compact and  optimized footprint design, as well as versatile features for energy-efficient operations in the Mining, Minerals & Metals (MMM); Energy & Chemicals (E&C); and Water/Wastewater (WWW) industries and fit for the main simple and complex type of applications, both in brownfield and greenfield.

Improving the efficiency of plant operations can make a difference in mitigating emissions from these sectors, especially as they are called on to support the energy transition. As an example, the strong demand for renewable energy has created a surge in raw materials. In E&C sector, “The chemical industry supports more than 75% of all emissions reduction technologies needed to meet net-zero goals by 2050.” This opportunity to support the global energy transition starts with improving the energy efficiency of industrial operations.
As a smart, connected variable speed drive (VSD) system, the Altivar Process ATV6100 range enables process optimization, energy management improvements and asset management. Both brownfield and greenfield industrial facilities, however, are often constrained by space and budget limitations to embark on modernization projects to reduce energy use and lower CO2 footprints, while optimizing process control. The ATV6100 therefore is purposely designed with a compact footprint and versatile options for tailored engineering to meet efficiency-related KPIs.

The new range enables reduced Total Cost of Ownership and increased operational effectiveness. It also saves up to 40% of space given its shorter width, requiring less installation and maintenance space. Service and maintenance tasks can be done from the front for most applications, facilitating more flexible, briefer and safer maintenance. The drive also features clean power low harmonics, meeting IEEE-519 standards, enhancing energy efficiency and supporting sustainable operations.

“We are pleased to offer the compact and versatile Altivar Process ATV 6100 drive, which enlarges our offer to segment applications by providing a solution that is easy for both new and systems to retrofit, allowing for seamless integration,” said Deepu Chawla, SVP Control & Drives, Schneider Electric. He added, “Built with durable, high-quality components, the ATV 6100 ensures long-term reliability and performance in demanding industrial environments; this will support customers to provide more energy-efficient, flexible solutions that will improve process operation and effectiveness.”

The Altivar Process ATV6100 drive has flexible input/output voltage and supports all kinds of motor classes that are designed according to IEC60034-18 and NEMA MG1, avoiding the need to have specific versions or different drives per type of motor.

Altivar Process ATV6100 is ideal for applications in various segments, including but not limited to:

  • Water/Wastewater applications include raw water pumps, lifting stations, blowers/compressors, booster pumps and high-pressure pumps.
  • Energy & Chemical applications include ESP, crude oil transfer pumps, pipeline compressors, ID/FD fans, extruders and mixers.
  • Mining, Minerals & Metals applications include long-distance conveyors, slurry pumps, SAG/ball mills, HPGR and ID/FD fans.

With a single-unit cabinet, for most applications, the Altivar Process ATV 6100 is built for fast installation, eliminating the need to connect cables between cabinets. Since transformer and power cell cables come pre-connected, the unit needs less commissioning time. Controlling motor speed (quadratic loads) where power consumption is proportional to the square of the speed, leads to energy savings.

The drive’s failure tolerant cell bypass and N+1 redundancy ensure high availability, improving operational continuity for critical processes. The significant reduction and use of state-of-the-art components results in enhanced reliability and easier maintenance.

Schneider Electric remains at the forefront of sustainable innovation for industrial automation. Schneider has more than 45 + years of experience in LV and MV Drive Systems, empowering it to scale to address major trends and overcome challenges in the process industries. The Altivar Process ATV 6100 continues Schneider’s long-standing commitment to industry partners as they meet their customers’ evolving needs.
